This two day course sets out to cover the most pertinent risks facing a person working, visiting or on short term secondment to a hostile environment.

The overspill into regions and countries adjacent to areas of conflict are an ever present threat. There is little or no time to readjust on the ground when there is a very real and present danger that may strike at any time and pre-travel training is an all important ingredient in getting it right from the outset.

Threat analysis in your pre-travel preparation is essential. This includes researching the types of threats and trends, security services, emergency infrastructure etc., to give you the best risk picture available. What do I take with me, what is available in country?  Cultural and situational awareness is about a non-descript approach to your appearance and behavior. Arrival in country, managing your journey to and from the airport, trips about town and further afield need planning.  The use of local transportation and drivers, or self-drive and vehicle security requires some real thought. Selecting the right hotel in the right area even the right floor and room location is important.  Equally the company villa or office can be subject to any number of threats. Security providers in country will have a package of services ranging from advice and consultancy through to armed escorts if required.  Munitions or Mines may remain lethal for years and IED’s are a preferred method of urban and rural terrorism. Medical support in the event of a vehicle accident, proximity to an explosion, even a fall and broken ankle would require interaction with local emergency services. Confrontation on the street or targeted hijacking may lead to a kidnap and ransom scenario. Actions on over a number of scenarios are also discussed
