The formation of Equipp has been about a desire by its Founder Colin (George) Turns to give something back. Having gained a huge wealth of knowledge and experience spanning decades of travel across several high risk regions, there is a real opportunity to exchange that knowledge so others may benefit.

EQUIPP is an AoFA Qualifications (AoFAQ) accredited training centre. AoFAQ is an awarding ogranisation recognised by the UK Governments Ofqual and the first here in Malta.

The tutors at EQUIPP are former UK military personnel with extensive global experience in both medical and security environments. We also have a recent member join the company from the Maltese military.

As a training provider we offer first aid, security and corporate qualifications.



George’s career spans several decades with 17 years in the military including specialist Anti-Terrorism experience between 1973 and 1990 in different countries across the globe.  For the last 25 years he has been working as a risk management consultant with Blue Chip organisations on projects in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Colin has a degree in Security Risk Management and is a member of the UK Security Institute.  He has also held prestigious roles as Managing Director of an IT technical company he co-founded, as Senior Consultant to a blue-chip oil and gas company in West Africa, and as the Senior Project Manager to critical infrastructure projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, among others.

He offers experience in modern day conflict zones such as Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan and has worked in a variety of training environments, including the delivery of Hostile Environment Awareness Training to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, UK government.

George Turns is an experienced security-risk management consultant and trainer bringing over 30 years of operational and training experience to EQUIPP. George has worked in the Middle East and has spent the last three and a half years working in Libya. His work with Governments, Oil & Gas and None Government Organisations (NGO’s) across several continents, gives him a real depth of experience. George has also worked with some of the UK’s leading security companies on a variety of training projects across the globe.

His 17 years’ service with the UK armed forces (Royal Marines) saw him on active service in numerous conflict zones. George had also undertaken several training projects during his military service, both in the UK and the Middle East, one of which was training advisor to the Kuwait Royal Military Police.

Having left the UK military George has forged a career in the Security Industry, achieving a variety of qualifications which has seen his expertise being applied to numerous Maritime Security contracts. Again, that academic knowledge has provided him with project work in contingency planning, crisis management and emergency evacuation planning for blue chip corporations in hostile environments.

As part of that career development George has numerous medical qualifications together with first-hand medical experience in hostile zones.

His travels have taken him to Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan and India as well as the Middle East.

Jim served 26 years in the military, serving in many theatre of operations around the world including Kuwait, Kosovo, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. For his work in Iraq, Jim received the MSM on the Queens Honours List in 2011. Whilst in the military he took part in the Royal Navy Field Gun competition twice, then recognised as the toughest team sport in the world. Jim taught aeronautical engineering so has a technical background as an aeronautical engineer.

He is also qualified and holds the qualification as an internal and external quality assurance auditor. His passion was playing rugby and he represented the Navy and coached and managed representative sides, both military and civilian.

On leaving the military Jim took up position as the Rugby Development Manager for the Maltese Rugby Union, in this role he used his Level Two coaching and past experience to teach, develop and promote the game of rugby from primary school children up to adults. He also spent two years working in the Maritime Security industry, responsible for a transit and training vessel. He has a Graduateship in Leadership and Management and also Management and Human Resources and a BETEC Level 5 in Management.

Stanley has over 15 years’ experience in the military, namely in the Armed Forces of Malta. Within the Air Squadron he moved through the ranks, ultimately serving as a Helicopter Rescue Swimmer with the Search & Rescue team, for 9 years.  Within this role Stanley participated in multiple life saving manoeuvres off Malta ‘s shores.  He is fully conversant with the use of the latest equipment in the field having participated in regular specialist training overseas.  He also served as a trainer delivering life-saving courses to the Malta Civil Protection department.

Stanley’s later career took him into the private security sector, participating in active security duty with VIPs in Malta. He then went on to hold various supervisory roles in the offshore oil industry, where Stanley developed his teaching and training skills, obtaining qualifications such as ICATS Train the Trainer and WJA Safety Awareness.  Stanley’s career has allowed him to travel to various high-risk environments, including parts of the North African continent.

Stanley has also spent a number of years contributing to the growing film industry in Malta.  As manager at Malta Films Studios he was entrusted to supervise and train personnel working at the purpose-built water tank facilities that are among the largest in the world.
